Frank McAvennie

Macca's senior career started at St Mirren where 48 goals in 135 league games attracted the attentions of West Ham manager John Lyall who brought him to the irons. Frank formed a formidable strike partnership with Tony Cottee that became instrumental as part of the famous ‘Boys of ‘86’ West Ham team that came 3rd in the top flight that season with 26 goals from Macca making him the seasons second highest goalscorer. Frank played 85 times for West Ham before moving to Celtic where he helped them win a league and cup double, scoring with two late goals in the Scottish Cup Final to beat Dundee 2-1. A second spell at West Ham followed making Frank their record signing and after a further 68 games for the club he signed off in style with a hattrick in his final game. A return to Celtic via Aston Villa and another spell at St Mirren makes Frank the only player to have played for three clubs twice.

Ian Rush

Rush scored an incredible 346 goals for Liverpool between 1980 and 1987. A true legend Rush was twice voted PFA Young Player of the year, won FWA footballer of the year, PFA Players Player of the Year and the European Golden Boot in his illustrious career that also included spells at Juventus and Newcastle. The second highest FA Cup goal scorer of all time, the record FA Cup final goal scorer, joint record League Cup goal scorer, the highest Wales international goal scorer, record Liverpool goal scorer, highest Merseyside Derby goal scorer and the third highest goal scorer in League Football... the stats speak for themselves.

Tony Cottee

During his career Cottee played for a number of sides, including West Ham United, Everton and Leicester City. He made his West Ham first team debut in 1983 and scored on his debut showing signs of the prolific goal scorer he would become. He was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year in 1986 the year of famous Boys of '86 team where his devastating striking partnership with Frank McAvennie saw West Ham finish third and come just four points away from the title. Cottee became the most expensive player to be signed by a British club when in 1988 he joined Everton in a £2.2 million deal. He kick-started his Goodison Park career in spectacular with a hat-trick on his debut. In 1996 he moved to Selangor of Malaysia, winning the Malaysian FA Cup and the Malaysia Cup. He remained there for ten months before returning to England with Leicester City in 1997, where he spent three years and won the League Cup in his final full season at Filbert Street.

Tony Cottee: West Ham


Kerry Dixon

51 league goals in 116 Reading games was enough to earn Dixon a move to Chelsea, where he is most vividly remembered as a free socring striker. Kerry's impact at Chelsea was immediate with 2 goals on his debut and a masisve 34 in total during his first season, including a hat-trick in a win over Leeds that clinches the Blues promotion to the first division. An opening day spectacular volley in a drwa with Arsenal was a sign of intent and Dixon finished as joint top scorer in his first spell in the top flight. Striking up a memorable partnership with both David Speedie and Pat Nevin, the trio scored nearly 200 goals in just three years. In his first 2 seasons with Chelsea Dixon scored an incredible 70 goals in 101 games. A true Chelsea legend Kerry is their 2nd highest all time goal scorer and is 7th in the overall appearance list.

Fan's favourite Parlour spent 14 years at Arsenal where he won the FA Cup four times, bagged a hat-trick of Premier League medals, a League Cup and a European Cup Winners Cup. A 30 yard screamer in the 2002 FA Cup Final against Chelsea cemented his place as a club legend and with 464 games in Arsenal colours and 32 goals to his name he moved to MIddlesborough where he led them to a UEFA Cup final.

Kevin's career began at Dundee United where he spent seven years in Jim McLean's successful side, playing in a UEFA Cup and Scottish Cup final. Following this he moved to Coventry where he became a fans favourite making over 100 appearances for the club. Blackburn beckoned in 1993 and Kevin formed a successful partnership with Chris Sutton, scoring 47 league goals in 146 games.

David's professional football career began at Bury where he scored 35 goals in 208 league games from midfield. After a brief spell at Southampton Bolton swooped for David and got their man. In making 147 appearances for the club David cemented himself as a Bolton legend and is the club's current Assistant Academy Director.

Walker's career began at Motherwell he spent three successful years before catching the eye of Celtic in the summer of 87. In his first season for the Bhoys Walker was part of the centenary season side that won the double and earned his first Scotland call up. After more than one hundred games Walker joined Bolton where he formed a lethal strike partnership with John McGinlay and helped the Trotters to promotion to the first division. The same season he famously scored at Anfield to send Liverpool out of the FA Cup. A bid from Celtic gave him his second spell with the club and they won the Scottish Cup in the first season of his return.

Andy Walker : Celtic


In 426 appearances for Everton, Sharp scored 159 goals to set a post war goalscoring record for Everton which has yet to be matched. Sharp's greatest achievements were as part of the Everton team which in 1984 won the FA Cup (he scored the first goal in the final), in 1985 and 1987 won the Football League Championship and also in 1985 the European Cup Winners' Cup. In October 1984, he scored the lone goal in Everton's first win at Anfield since 1970. His key role in this golden era led to his inclusion in Everton's "Greatest Ever Team", following a poll in the club's 125th anniversary. After leaving Everton Sharp joined Oldham where he helped them to an FA Cup semi final and scored 30 goals in 109 league appearances.

Graeme Sharp : Everton


Derek made his name at Rangers and Hearts, notching up over 100 appearances for each of them. After a successul spell at Sunderland he moved back to Scottish football and played for a succession of clubs including Hamilton. In a distinguished career Ferguson won three league championships and four league cups.

69 goals in 170 appearances for Newport County, followed by 42 goals in 114 Oxford United appearances earned Aldridge a move to Liverpool. John scored 26 goals in what turned out to be a magnificent first season for Liverpool, including a strike in each of the first nine games. He linked up with new signings Peter Beardsley and John Barnes to form one of the most exciting attacking lines in the club's history as Liverpool lost just twice in the League championship season and went unbeaten for the first 29 matches winning the 1988 title in style. 'Aldo' went on to play 104 times for his boyhood favourites scoring 63 goals.

With a reputation as a fearless goalkeeper Tony's career started at Birmingham City where he quickly cemented himself as the clubs first choice goalkeeper, even saving a penalty in the first minute of his debut. A move to Watford followed and Tony made over 233 appearances in six years at the club and won the player of the season award three times. In 1990 Manchester City made Coton one of Britain's most expensive goalkeepers with a bid of nearly a million pounds. Tony justified the price tag becoming their player of the season twice in 6 years and 163 league appearances. After hanging up his boots Tony became one of the country's most respected goal keeping coaches.

Sharpey played 265 games for Manchester United over 8 years at the club and scored 36 goals including a hat-trick against Arsenal at Highbury and a spectacular back heel against Barcelona in the Champions League. An FA Cup winner, Cup Winners Cup Winner, Premier League winner and PFA young player of the year Lee was one of the most talented players of his generation.

Lee Sharpe : Man Utd


Craig played 155 league games for Middlesbrough, scoring 33 goals in that time. A genuine fans favourite Craig took boro to two Cup finals, earning an FA Cup and League Cup runners up medal.

Craig Hignett : Middlesbrough


Pallister made 156 appearances at his boyhood heroes Middlesborough, quickly becoming recognised as one of the best defenders in the game. Such was the respect he commanded in the heart of the defence Manchester United were willing to pay £2.3 million to bring him to Old Trafford. It was the national record for a defender at the time, as well as being the highest fee between British clubs and the second highest fee to be paid by a British club - second only to Ian Rush's return to Liverpool from Juventus a year earlier. In a nine year spell at United he won 4 Premier League titles, three FA Cup's, a League Cup, five Charity SHileds, a European Cup Winners' Cup and a Super Cup.

Gary Pallister : Middlesbrough


Steve Kirk had spells at East Fife, Stoke and Partick Thistle before a return to East Fife in 1982 saw him socre 35 times in 135 appearances and famously helping the Fifers beat Hibs in a memorable Scottish Cup third round replay in 1984. In 1986, Kirk began a nine-year association with Motherwell, which saw him play over 300 league games and score the winner in the 1991 Scottish Cup final.

Beresford made his name at Barnsley with 88 league appearances before moving to Portsmouth where his attacking style from his position in defence caught the attention of Newcastle, for where he is most famous. Between 1992 and 1998 his attacking tendencies were crucial to "the Entertainers" and Beresford formed a formidable partnership with the other full back Warren Barton.

John Beresford : Newcastle


Mark played in top-level football leagues in England, Italy, France and Scotland and made 32 appearances for the England national team. Hateley started his career at Coventry City, before moving to Portsmouth, where a successful 1983-84 season resulted in a high profile transfer to A.C. Milan. The same season he won U21 European Championships with England. Impressing with 17 goals in 66 games, Monaco came calling and he enjoyed three years with the club scoring 22 goals in 59 league appearances. Hateley enjoyed his best days at Rangers, where he scored 111 goals in in 214 games helping them to five successive league titles. He was also the first non-Scottish player to win the Scottish Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year award while with the club. As well as the five league titles, Hatley also won 3 Scottish League Cup's and two Socttish FA Cup's and also has a Ligue 1 medal from his time with Monaco.

Mark Hateley : Rangers


John "Bomber" Brown started his career at Hamilton before moving on to Dundee. He was signed by Rangers in January 1988 as a promising youngster and went on to be eventually included in 278 games for the club. Along the way, as a squad player he managed to collect 6 league Titles, 3 Scottish Cups and 3 league Cups scoring 18 goals in the process.

Steve made more than 450 appearances in the Football League and Premier League for Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Sedgley made more than 180 first-team appearances for Tottenham Hotspur as a player after a £750,000 move from Coventry City in July 1989 before switching to Ipswich Town for £1 million in June 1994. More than 100 appearances followed for Ipswich before the final move of his playing career, a £500,000 transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 1997, where he again made more than 100 League appearances. Steve has two FA Cup winners medals.

Steve Sedgley : Spurs


Micky signed for Sunderland at the age of just 12 and went on to make 69 league appearances for the North East club. Micky was also an instrumental player in the Black Cats famous 1973 FA Cup run that ended with a winners medal after Sunderland beat Leeds, a giant killing of the time, in the Final. Successful spells at Plymouth, Hull and Happy Valley in Hong Kong followed before he finally hung up his boots after a brief spell with Carlisle.
